Judicial Codes Counselors (JCCs)
Cornell has a Judicial Codes Counselor (JCC) office:
G15 Hughes Hall
(607) 255-6492
cornelljcc@gmail.com
It is staffed by students from the Cornell Law School. JCCs provide free assistance to any member of the Cornell community accused of violating the Campus Code of Conduct, the Code of Academic Integrity, or the Statement on Responsible Speech and Expression.
JCCs can assist a student accused of violating the Code of Academic Integrity by helping them prepare their response to the charge, helping them prepare an appeal to an Academic Integrity Hearing Board (AIHB), and attending a primary hearing or AIHB hearing in order to advise the student during the hearing.
The presence of a JCC at such hearings is in an advisory capacity only—the JCC does not represent the student and make the student's case for them. That said, the instructor or AIHB chair in charge of a hearing may let the JCC participate in discussions and make a concluding statement, as long as the major part of the case is made by the student. The student may also ask to speak quietly to the JCC in order to get advice. The person in charge of the hearing has the right to exercise discretion and limit the participation of the JCC.
